Café Church
Café Church 1st October to 5th November 2017
Café Church ran for six weeks over the autumn
period, bringing some new and familiar faces of
those who wanted to explore the big questions of
life in an informal and welcoming environment.
Concurrent with the regular Café Church in the
Oasis, Bill Shields and Martin Delaney stood in for
Norman Harper in running a bible study for some
of those who regularly attend our Wednesday
night English Language classes along with some of
their friends. So popular was this bible study that
they had to move from the reception room to the
Minor Hall, owing to the lack of space for all those
attending.
Both groups (in the Oasis and downstairs)
followed the same theme and studied the same
material but in a way that was appropriate to
the participants. Our theme for this session was
‘Identity’. We wanted to tap into something that is
highly relevant in our current society and nothing
seemed more relevant than how we view our own
identity.
We explored the following aspects of ‘Identity’:
Week 1: Who Am I? – Exploring our own identity
(Genesis 1:27; John 4)
Week 2: Who Do You Say That I Am? – Exploring
the identity of Jesus (Mark 8:27-30)
Week 3: Our Distorted Identity – Exploring our
fallen nature and broken lives (Ephesians 2:1-10;
Romans 5:12-21)
Week 4: Our Restored Identity – Exploring how
Jesus transforms our identity (Luke 15:11-32)
Week 5: Living with a New Identity – Exploring
how to live with an identity founded on Christ
(Philippians 2:5-11; Galatians 5:16-26)
Week 6: Our New Community – Exploring our
identity as members of the church family (Acts
2:41:47; 4:32-36)
