Finally, the two largest changes and decisions
which your Committee passed this last year are
worth mentioning. The building project is
a huge commitment both practically and
financially for High Kirk and within the last 18
months, you have raised almost a third of the
funds required, with just over £400,000 thus
far. Well done to all of you who have given
so generously and a personal thank you to
our Treasurer James Hamill who has carried
through an enormous amount of work for us
in finance. You’re wondering what the second To close then, the scripture which has been on
large decision I referred to earlier…… well, of my mind throughout the time of writing this is
course, that was the new office photocopier Philippians 3:14. “I press on toward the goal
which took a bit of getting over the line also. to win the prize for which God has called me
Seriously though, Norman shared his vision for
High Kirk where he highlighted the number of heavenward in Christ Jesus”. Paul is instructing
us that our goal is to know Jesus and to
people who pass through our buildings each become like him, to put our energy into that.
week can be as many as a filled sanctuary, Not allowing distraction but be single-minded
600-700 people. This highlights the importance in this and become effective Christians. So, will
of upgrading our buildings to be fit to serve
those who are presently being ministered to you persevere with God’s mission for us and
our community in this place, God’s house of
but equally for those in our community who are prayer, of sanctuary and of outreach? God has
currently outside of our fellowship. However, much change determined for us in the future
I believe there are many people known to us and I hope you are stirred to embrace it, feel
personally and therefore are not outside our
influence. This brings me to the challenges His provision and experience the reward He
                                                                 has set ahead for us.
ahead for us as we seek to be an invitational
and welcoming church to bring those people
outside inside. I have three ‘looks’ for you to
consider. Firstly we ‘look up’ as we kneel in David Kirk
prayer to our God in thankfulness as it is Him Congregational Secretary.
who has provided us with all we have here.
Also, to place His lost people in our path in
whatever form that may take and that we do
not allow that opportunity to pass us by. As
we ‘look in’ we support each other. I hope we
can lavish each other with the fruits of the
spirit and the gifts God has joyfully bestowed
on each one of us. We need to be careful not
to waste that! Lastly, we ‘look out’ where God
requires us to be bold and to persevere in our
circle of influence and serve those who God
places before us. Are you feeling nervous
yet? I hope so and if so, take that as an
encouragement! God is moving you and
has placed a willing heart within you.
