You know through all of this lockdown
God remains
and we
need to be
attuned to what He will ask of us.
The work to build on these priorities has
already begun and we can see evidence of
this in many aspects with our website
www.highkirk.org.uk, our window to the
world, broadcasting Jesus Christ as the only
one capable of ‘Making sense of life’.
Alongside the practical out-workings of these
priorities there is the need to be attuned to
the prompting of the Holy Spirit and for us
to prepare ourselves to be available. Under
Norman’s leadership and with the support of
the staff team we have been immersing
ourselves in God’s word through series on
Naturally Supernatural (1 Corinthians 12 & 14),
Walking with Jesus (Luke), The Spirit of Elijah
(1st & 2nd Kings), ‘NEW’, Rebuilding (studies in
Nehemiah) and our advent reflection from
Isaiah, Breaking In, interspersed with other
general topics to help us to make sense of
this life that God has planned.
As we experienced a little of church life through
this period we rejoiced in a time of communion
in November when 38 people joined the
church family – 26 on confession of faith and
12 transferring from other fellowships.
The logistics of 4 communions over 2 Sundays
and the introduction of cups of fellowship
evidenced a willingness to be inventive in the
outworking of our faith. This creativity was
further evidenced when on 20 December we
had 3 carol services with the 6.30pm being
streamed across a variety of digital channels.
Sadly, we have conducted a number of
funerals for our members during this time of
restrictions and our prayers are with those
who continue to mourn the loss of loved
ones in such difficult circumstances.

On behalf of Session I would like to thank
all our staff: Norman, Keith, Rachel, Nikki,
Lorraine, Clifford, Stephanie, Willis, Stephen,
Ian, Tina, Diane and Emily, together with our
Committee, especially the technology team
under the direction of Brian Adams and the
myriad of volunteers who through this year
have prayed for and with us, have brought
God’s word into our living rooms, have lifted
the phone to check on our well-being, have
brought BOBS store to life by deliveries and
donations, have led us in Praise and worship,
have given our young people and children their
‘special’ place, have facilitated a place which is
‘safe’ and have kept the witness of a group of
Christians from Ballymena vibrant and alive not
only in our town but across our world. Having
served the church in his role as elder (and clerk
to High Kirk in 2018) since May 2001 Ken Revie
stepped down in June 2020 to focus on other
areas of Christian service and we thank him
for the contribution he brought in Session
specifically on outreach to the local community
and for prayer and we trust that God will
continue to bless him as he seeks to do His will.
We would also like to thank you for
remaining faithful in prayer, in attendance
on-line, for your physical attendance at services
when both health and circumstances allowed
and for patience as you supported us with the
Covid measures we have put in place.
